The Art and Science of Storytelling with Data

Presented by Dr. Jacob Burgoon, Director of Nonprofit and Government Operations, MetriKs Amérique

storytellingStorytelling is as old as humankind. It’s how we communicate the things that are most important to us—our ambitions, our problems, our solutions. Whether visual, narrative, or oral, stories tell us where we’ve been, where we are, and where we want to go. During this presentation, Dr. Jacob Burgoon will show you how to meaningfully use data to tell your organization’s story in memorable and compelling ways.

You will learn why visualizing your data is important, and how to break free from default Excel graphs to create more engaging data visualizations. You will also learn how to effectively integrate the “hard” data required by some funders with the emotional anecdotes desired by others. Lastly, you’ll see various ways to deliver these visualizations (e.g., infographics, data dashboards), and learn how to ensure your story is grounded in the logic of your programming.
